A physically cryptographic hoteling observer for nuclear warhead verification

چکیده

When verifying the authenticity for nuclear warheads dismantlement toward a treaty partner's obligation, arms verification technologies are critical since only disarmament treaties not sufficient to neutralize existential threat of weapons. In this work, we present method combining numerical observer model and physical encryption techniques. The performance is quantified by Monte Carlo simulations with several typical deception scenarios. Simulation results show can efficiently complete identification tasks in presence noise (<5 %) source-term variability, meanwhile exhibiting high security against brute-force attacks which reconstruct detection data exhaustive method.

Designing Protocols for Nuclear Warhead Verification

Future arms-control and disarmament treaties could place numerical limits on all categories of nuclear weapons in the arsenals of weapon states, including tactical weapons, non-deployed weapons, and weapons awaiting dismantlement. Verification of such agreements is likely to require new types of inspection equipment — but also new verification protocols. This paper offers a set of definitions a...

Monte Carlo simulations of a physical cryptographic warhead verification protocol using nuclear resonance fluorescence

Future multilateral nuclear arms reduction efforts will require technologies for the verification of treaty compliance. In particular, warheads slated for dismantlement will need to be verified for authenticity without revealing any sensitive weapons design information to international inspectors. Recent efforts have investigated physical cryptographic verification protocols that attempt to sol...

Nuclear Warhead Verification: A Review of Attribute and Template Systems

Verification of current nuclear arms control treaties between United States and Russia relies primarily on the verification of delivery vehicles. Warheads are counted indirectly via the delivery vehicles that they are associated with. As states move to lower numbers of nuclear weapons in their arsenals, verification will likely pose complex challenges. Most importantly, future nuclear disarmame...

Physical cryptographic verification of nuclear warheads.

How does one prove a claim about a highly sensitive object such as a nuclear weapon without revealing information about the object? This paradox has challenged nuclear arms control for more than five decades. We present a mechanism in the form of an interactive proof system that can validate the structure and composition of an object, such as a nuclear warhead, to arbitrary precision without re...

Toward a Secure Inspection System for Nuclear Warhead Verification Without Information Barrier

We previously proposed an approach to nuclear warhead verification envisioning an inspection system that a priori avoids detection of sensitive information, using a so-called zero-knowledge protocol. Under such a protocol, the host can prove to an inspector that a warhead is authentic without revealing anything about its materials or design. The challenge remains, however, to demonstrate a prac...
